Plastic Filaments Tested with 3d Printing on ZMorph

Zmorph printers are designed to use filaments from all reputable manufacturers provided they meet the dimension tolerances that are required for our extruder toolheads. Also the printing temperatures must be lower than 255°C for extruder and 140°C for printing bed.

The most common materials for FDM/FFF 3D printing are ABS and PLA.

PLA plastic

  • Most common 3D-printing plastic filament
  • Derived from corn, potatoes, tapioca, etc.
  • Low-toxic fumes (but still emits microparticles, like all filaments)
  • Best for sharp details, and high speed prints


ABS plastic

  • It smells stronger than PLA
  • Derived from petrolium products
  • 3D printing with closed covers is recommended to keep the fumes inside and provide a stable environment for printing
  • High temperature resistance
  • Requires a prepared surface: ABS-juice, BuildTak, Kapton Tape, Dimafix



  • Low temperature filament (about 170 degrees Celsius)
  • A mix of 30/70 ratio wood/plastic
  • Look and behave like wood after its printed

Flexible filaments

  • Printing temperatures similar to those of ABS
  • Softness is dependent from infill and outlines
  • Print at low speed to prevent filament from blocking
  • Print on clean glass


  • Other filaments can also be used with ZMorph machines. It is good to have some prior knowledge about how the extruder works because some of them might cause clogging.

    Might I recommend you add the recommended maximum temperature that the extruder can handle safely.
