How to Remove Blocked Filament in Dual PRO Extruder

Sometimes filament can get stuck in the filament guiding system. The tutorial below explains how to bring it back to work again.

WARNING: 

  • Be careful not to damage the cables for motors and heaters. If unsure, perform all the steps below with power switched off, then switch it on, heat up the nozzles and keep them heated only for filament pushing.
  • Skip steps 7-X if you have Dual PRO without removable nozzle
  • Be careful not to burn yourself when operating with hot nozzle. Use Tweezers and Pliers when necessary.

Step 1

Heat up your Dual PRO extruder to temperature of lastly used filament.

Step 2

After heating up, try to extrude jammed filament (press blue button with arrow pointing down) on blocked side (left or right). Then, press red arrow pointing up to remove the filament entirely.

 

If filament is still in the feeder, proceed with following :

 

Step 3

Remove screw mounting motor to toolhead. You will need M4 allen key and flat wrench 7. 

Step 4

Tilt the motor outside.

 

Step 5

Pull the rest of filaments using pilers.

Step 6

If filament won't get out try to gently push filament using pilers and pull again.

Step 7

If you overheated PLA or PVA filament, internal feeding channels might be blocked with solidified plastic, to clean them using Flat Wrench 8 remove nozzle from the heating block. Take Pliers and remove mixing element (don't lose it!).

Step 8

Take 2mm drill and gently clean the canals. Canals are at an angle of around 30 degrees (see graphic below). Depth of one of the canals is also shown in the picture.

Step 9

Mount the mixing element and nozzle back.

 

Step 10

Mount the motors back. Check the pressure gear adjustments. Heat up nozzle and choose Feed option. During movement of the motor, hold down the filament by hand to check if it slips. If it happens, adjust the gear pressure.
